In Burley the G Canal project is getting some help. Idaho U.S. Representative Mike Simpson said more than 5-million dollars in federal funding has been secured. The money will be used to replace the culvert and traffic signal at the intersection of Idaho Highway 27th and 27th street in Burley. The canal, originally built in the 1930s, had its culvert lengthened in the 1960s and 1980s but is now due for a complete replacement.
The Jump Creek Recreation Site in Owyhee County is re-opening, after officials report the Jump Fire is fully contained. The BLM lifted lifting a temporary closure last night for the southwestern Idaho site, which is seven miles southwest of Marsing. The Fire is believed to have been sparked by lightning. At last check it had burned roughly 12,000 acres of grass and brush.
Yesterday the Idaho DEQ issue an air quality advisory that will prohibit open burning in Blaine and Camas counties. The DEQ said they would issue the next update this morning at 11.
The Idaho State Police announced the retirement of Colonel Kedrick Wills effective next Thursday. Wills has been with the agency since 1996 and was named Colonel in 2017. Governor Brad Little said he has appointed Bill Gardiner to lead the agency. Gardiner has been serving as a lieutenant colonel and deputy director and chief of staff for ISP since 2020.
If you are traveling to or from Boise this week look for several mowing operations. The ITD is taking on a massive lawn mowing project. It’s to prevent fires sparked by vehicles along I-84 from Boise to Mountain Home. A four-person team of three mowers and a water truck are tasked with mowing 400 miles of vegetation, covering 64 miles of roadway, this week along the corridor.
A survey focused on the safety of Idaho’s roadways has had a favorable response from the community. Public transit was thought to be the safest method of travel throughout the valley, while driving a personal vehicle was thought to be the second safest method. Carpooling came in third, walking fourth, bicycling fifth.
