Four people were killed Friday morning in a 3 vehicle pileup at the junction of highway 93 and state highway 25 in Jerome County. Police say a 35 year old male from Mexico was westbound and didn’t stop. His van collided with a garbage truck. As the driver of a pickup who was traveling south slowed for the crash a vehicle following rear ended the pickup. The vehicle with 4 hispanic males all died at the scene. A fifth passenger was transported by air ambulance while a female was sent to the hospital by ambulance. It happened just after 7 and the intersection was closed for nearly 6 hours.
Jerome County has a new prosecuting attorney. On Friday, deputy Prosecutor Sam Beus was sworn into the position. He replaces Brad Calbo who remains in a Lincoln County Oregon jail facing charges of violating a no contact order. He plead no contest to assault charges from an incident in June.
Former Boise Police Chief Ryan Lee has filed a million dollar suit claiming Police department members campaigned to sabotage his career. He claims false information was spread among the department.
56 year old Catherine Skidmore from Meridian, was sentenced to 41 months in federal prison for embezzling almost $2 million in a money laundering scheme from the Black Canyon Irrigation District. In the sentence, the Judge also ordered Skidmore to pay back the money and be under supervised release for three years after completing her prison sentence.
Idaho public schools are now required to maintain separate restrooms, showers, and changing areas for biological boys and biological girls. The law also ensures that any student unwilling or unable to use the bathroom of their designated gender will be provided reasonable accommodations. This law originally went into effect on July 1 of this year, but was blocked in August when Judge Nye issued a temporary restraining order on the legislation, pending further court action.
Thomas Creech's attorneys have filed a clemency application in hopes of having his death sentence commuted to life in prison without parole. The Idaho Department of Corrections has served Thomas Creech with a death warrant and scheduled his execution for November 8, 2023.
