Just before 7 last night authorities in Heyburn issued a warning to residents to evacuate. The order was made for those living within the three blocks of 21st street and Mona Avenue. Police say they were called to a residence on Mona Street on a report of gunfire. For a time they negotiated with a person inside the home. Later when they entered they found the person died by suicide.
A 36 year old Jerome man died from injuries he received from a crash just after 5:30 yesterday afternoon. Police say the victim was westbound on 700 north when he crossed the center line and struck another vehicle head on. The other driver was air lifted for medical treatment.
Starting Monday motorists who travel on I-84 near Burley and Heyburn will want to know this. The upgrade for the interchanges near both communities will begin. Both multi-year projects include replacing the interchanges. Both were built in the 1960’s. It’s expected that construction will continue through late 2026 and will cost around 85 million dollars.
An Idaho bill is trying to remove the six-month waiting period for a non-fee ID card for voting. Idaho House of Representatives passed House Bill 532. The bill addresses some issues including the removal of student IDs as a valid form of personal identification and provided no-fee IDs to people who have not had a driver's license for at least six months, but need an ID to vote.
The Child Protection Legislative Oversight Committee will meet on this morning at 8 to highlight various Idaho foster care crises. The committee will discuss the increasing reliance on Airbnbs and short-term rentals to house children, foster child rights violations and foster parent concerns with system oversight.
The body of 27 year old Captain Ben Moulton who died in a helicopter crash in California February 6th in a military training exercise is being returned to Idaho this afternoon. Around 3:30 a processional will begin at the Boise Airport and will travel to Emmett City Park for a public ceremony. ISP will assist with the processional. They hope to arrive in Emmett around 4:30.
