Following breakfast with Idaho Governor Brad Little, two teams of Idaho State Police troopers headed out yesterday on a three week deployment to help the state of Texas secure the U.S. Mexico border. Governor Little announced the three-week mission during his State of the State and Budget Address in January, saying the focus of the next mission is on human trafficking.
The federal Supreme Court will hear oral arguments pitting the State of Idaho against the US Department of Justice on April 24. The Court will decide whether Idaho’s restrictive abortion laws violate the national Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act.
The Idaho Senate and House passed a house bill with strong majority party support to restrict material deemed "inappropriate for minors" by existing state law inside Idaho libraries. After review if a library disagrees, the complainant can file a civil lawsuit for $250. Governor Brad Little vetoed a similar bill last year.
Without any debate, the Idaho House of Representatives and Idaho Senate passed a new transportation budget revoking the sale of the Idaho Transportation Department’s former Boise headquarters Wednesday and then promptly recessed until April 10. Members of the Idaho House voted 37-31 yesterday, a brand new version that was written just hours earlier by the Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee.
Just as Idaho legislators were hoping to wrap up their annual legislative session, the Idaho
Division of Vocational Rehabilitation asked for a last-minute, emergency supplemental funding request because the division is facing a $4.7 million shortfall and is unable to pay its bills. Documents presented to JFAC identified more than 300 vendors with an outstanding balance. The largest outstanding amount was for more than $325,000 for Idaho State University.
Traffic in front of Con Paulos and Mavrik on south Lincoln in Jerome was slowed for several hours yesterday morning. A semi-truck became separated from its trailer causing a fuel spill. There were no injuries reported.
