Wildfires continue to burn in the area as evidenced by all the smoke in the air. The Idaho Bureau of Land Management is battling a fire alongside a mountain three miles northwest of Picabo. 800 acres has burned at last check. The Gardner Fire started around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Some campgrounds and trails in the Redfish Lake Recreation Complex are still closed or impacted by the Bench Lake Fire as flames begin to die down. Crews report the Bench Lake Fire has shown minimal fire activity.
There are more fairs and rodeos set to begin this week. The Jerome fair and rodeo runs through Saturday with the rodeo today through Wednesday, antique tractor pulls on Thursday, the Sam Barber concert Friday and Sled pulls on Saturday. The Blaine County fair also starts today with an ATV rodeo Thursday, Kids rodeo Friday and the rodeo Saturday.
Several fatalities occurred on Idaho roads over the weekend. Near Bliss, one occurred just before 8 yesterday morning along I-84. A 71 year old female was eastbound when she lost control and struck a semi truck. Her passenger a 65 year old female from Boise died at the scene. The portion of road was closed for 6 hours. A motorcyclist died near Marsing when he crashed into a semi-truck driven by a juvenile. Five vehicles collided north of Blackfoot when traffic was at a standstill because of a vehicle fire. Several injuries were reported.
A federal judge has expanded a temporary block on an Idaho law for all incarcerated people in Idaho prisons diagnosed with gender dysphoria and receiving hormone therapy. Judge David Nye’s revised temporary restraining order is in response to a lawsuit filed by the ACLU of Idaho on behalf of three transgender people in Idaho prisons who receive hormone therapy. They were going to lose access to their care after House Bill 668 took effect July 1.
The south Central public health district is gearing up for another school by offering vaccine clinics throughout southern Idaho. The clinics will be open starting today in many locations. At the clinic parents can check to see what their child needs and staff will be on hand to administer the vaccines.
