Authorities are investigating a pursuit that happened around midnight this morning. The Elmore County Sheriff’s Office is leading an investigation into an officer-involved shooting incident involving Idaho State Police troopers near Mountain Home. Shortly after midnight, a trooper near milepost 172 on I-84 in Jerome County observed a Honda Accord traveling westbound at a high rate of speed. Speeds reached over 140 miles an hour. Near Mountain Home spike strips were successfully deployed. Troopers gave verbal commands to the male driver. During the attempted arrest, shots were fired, and the driver was struck and killed. Westbound traffic is blocked at this time.

Idaho state police say a juvenile female was killed near Gooding around midnight yesterday. Authorities say it happened around 2300 East and 3300 south in Gooding County. The driver lost control causing the vehicle to roll.

A 23-year-old Nampa man died Saturday morning after being struck by vehicle on I-84. He was attempting to cross the westbound lanes near Boise around 3 am when he was struck by a car.

The Glendale fire near Bellevue is now 100 percent controlled. Wood River Fire and Rescue is working on creating an After-Action Review of the fire to assess the response to it, according to fire and rescue officials.

Locals are preparing for events to honor the victims of 9-11. The Twin Falls sheriff's office, paramedics and fire department installed lines across the canyon between Jerome and Twin Falls counties preparing to pull a large flag that will fly over the canyon near the Perrine Bridge and the visitors center. The events begin tomorrow and will continue through Wednesday at the site.

Beginning today, the state transportation department is warning motorists who use the Perrine bridge to expect delays. Inspections will be conducted through next Sunday September 15th.

Speaking of traffic delays, construction crews are moving traffic between Jerome and Twin Falls to the newly constructed roadway. The ITD said there will be delays as the move is made. Eastbound traffic was moved over this past weekend while westbound traffic will be moved over next weekend.

SPORTS

The Idaho State Bengals routed Western Oregon in the 2024 home opener of the ICCU Dome, taking down the Wolves 50-10 in front of the Bengal faithful.

Boise State was on the losing end of a game-winning field goal that capped off a back-and-forth game, falling 37-34 to No. 7/6 Oregon Saturday night in Autzen Stadium. 

The No. 7 Idaho Vandal defense allowed just 270 yards of offense and only one touchdown while sacking the Wyoming quarterback five times and forcing a turnover to hold off Wyoming and win 17-13 Saturday at War Memorial Stadium in Laramie. 

The CSI Men's Soccer club picked up their first win in program history this afternoon as two second half goals propelled them to a 2-1 victory over Truckee Meadows.  The Golden Eagles had fallen just short in their two early matches this season and were looking well on their way to grinding out another draw on the road.

As we shine the spotlight on local football programs, this morning we look at Oakley and Raft River. Coming off of a nine-win season and an appearance in the 1A Division 1 state championship game, the Oakley Hornets will once again be tasked with reloading coming into the 2024 season. Head coach Brennan Jones and his staff must replace two-way, first team All-State performers Bry Severe and Isaac Cranney, along with other key performers like Kooper Beck and Kyler Robinson among a graduating class of eleven seniors that nearly won four consecutive state championships.

Raft River High School head football coach Chad Evans is back. The Trojans are coming off of a two-win season, which is unfamiliar territory for football fans in Malta. It was a team that lacked depth due to injuries as the short-handed team lost its final three games by a combined score of 170-56, falling short of reaching the 1A Division 1.

From the local scoreboard from this weekend’s game for Football, Hagerman trampled Water springs 90 to 0. Challis downed Richfield 44 to 22. It was Glenns Ferry 40 Clearwater 22. Valley outlasted Prarie 52 to 22. Aberdeen outdid Declo 8 to 0. It was American Falls 20 Filer 14. Bishop Kelly downed Minico 20 to 8. Buhl defeated Mountain Home 43 to 6. Emmett downed Burley 42 to 35. It was Canyon Ridge 41 Cenury 13. Butte defeated Carey 40 to 20. Garden Valley over Castleford 46 to 16. Dietrich ousted Rockland 30 to 26. Grace defeated Murtaugh 50 to 26. Kimberly defeated Snake River 28 to 24. Marsing downed Wendell 35 to 20. Ridgevue defeated Wood River 40 to 7. Rimrock defeated Hansen 49 to 14. Shoshone took the win over North Gem 28 to 14. It was Twin Falls 74 Jerome 0. Kendrick74 Oakley 8, Gooding 50 Parma 13.

On the schedule, for local games, boys' soccer, Sun Valley community school will travel to Buhl, Wendell goes to Declo and Bliss heads to Filer. For the girls, Kimberly goes to Gooding.
