Yesterday snow started to fall at a mountain peak of southern Idaho.  The Pomerelle ski resort near Mount Harrison posted pictures on their Facebook page of the white stuff falling on their lifts. 

Attorney General Raúl Labrador has weighed in on school districts’ responsibilities under a new law that requires parental consent for health treatment.  In a letter to state superintendent Debbie Critchfield last week, Labrador said it’s unlikely that a school district will be sued for giving a student a Band-Aid. And he accused “various groups and individuals” of “pushing an extreme reading” of the law in an effort to undermine it.

A new sign in opposition to the Proposition 1 ballot initiative is at the center of controversy as Nov. 5 general election draws closer. Idaho Republican Party officials say more than a dozen of the signs have been vandalized in Meridian and Eagle. Republican officials announced Monday they put up a $5,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of anyone responsible for vandalizing the signs. 

The cost of fighting wildfires was given to the land board of commissioners in Boise yesterday.  So far, the state has 180 human-caused fires and 112 lightning-caused fires, for a total of 292 fires. The total acres burned are 48,336.  It’s estimated that the cost will top 51 million.  They hope to recover over 5 million leaving a bill of 45 million. 

Nathan Jerke who has worked 17 years with the Idaho transportation department is the new executive director for the Magic Valley Metropolitan planning organization.  The newly formed group will serve as a regional transportation planning body for a portion of South-Central Idaho.  The group is federally required in urban areas with populations greater than 50-thousand people.

Kroger and Albertsons met in court yesterday to plead their case on a possible merger of both grocery chains. The Lawyers for the Federal Trade Commission and for the supermarket chains gave their closing arguments after a three-week hearing on the preliminary injunction.  Albertsons and Kroger argued this $24.6 billion merger would allow the companies to better compete against rivals like Walmart, Costco and Amazon.

SPORTS

The College of Southern Idaho Women's Rodeo brought home fourth place at the Idaho State University Rodeo with 200 points. The Golden Eagle Men's Team finished sixth with 220 points.  CSI next travels to Rangely, Colo. for the Colorado Northwestern Rodeo Friday and Saturday.

Boise State football will play its 2024 home opener three days from today and Bronco Nation has a lot to look forward to as part of their return to Albertsons Stadium.  Fans interested in making their game day stand-out are invited to check out new premium and one-of-a-kind experiences that range from behind-the-scenes tours of Bleymaier Football Center and Albertsons Stadium, to a reserved VIP area near the Allen Noble Hall of Fame to watch Bronco players and coaches fist bump the Lyle Smith statue and fans during the Bronco Walk, to pregame and 4th quarter field access, and finally, an opportunity to celebrate a special occasion with a custom videoboard message during the game.

From the local high school scoreboard, for boys soccer, Burley defeated Minico 2 to 0.  Twin Falls topped Mountain home 2 to 1.  Wood River defeated Jerome 3 to 1. 

For the girls, Minico and Burley tied it up with 2 each. Twin Falls outlasted Mountain Home 4 to 1. 

For volleyball games, Twin Falls defeated Burley 3 to 2.  Kimberly outlasted buhl 3 to 1.  It was Wood River 3 Mountain Home 1. 

Todays Boys soccer schedule finds Declo traveling to Filer, Buhl goes to Gooding, Bliss to Kimberly and Wendell travels to the Sun Valley Community school.

For the girls Filer boards the bus to Declo, Buhl heads to Gooding.  Bliss to Kimberly and Wendell goes to the Sun Valley Community School.

On the volleyball schedule Lighthouse Christian goes to Hagerman, Raft River is on the road to Shoshone.  Richfield goes to Camas County, Castleford to Carey, Hansen heads to Dietrich.  Valley to Murtaugh and the Sun Valley Community School goes to Oakley.
