Sports 10/11/23

As the Idaho Vandals celebrate homecoming week in Moscow the team is hoping to defeat their biggest rival. The #3 ranked Vandals face #16 ranked Montana. Both teams are 5-1, so just like in the old days, this game has a lot of implications for the Big Sky Conference race, the national race and playoff positioning, so it is a huge game. Saturday's battle at a sold out Kibbie Dome will be broadcast on ESPN2. Kickoff is set for 7:30 PM.


Boise State quarterback Taylen Green and wide receiver Eric McAlister were named to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Honorable Mention list. Green accounted for 155 passing yards and 40 rushing yards in Boise State's 35-27 win over San Jose State. McAlister totaled 170 receiving yards on five catches, including a career-long 83-yard touchdown reception.


There are only two weeks left in high school prep football in the regular season and it’s becoming clear the favorites. Locally, making its debut in the 4A rankings is Minico, who is tied at No. 5 with conference foe Twin Falls. The Spartans took a huge win against Jerome last week to capture their fifth straight win. They have only lost two games and both were with Utah schools. Elsewhere Kimberly is #3 amongst 3A teams. Declo is #1 in 2A action and Oakley is #1 amongst the 1A D1 teams. Camas County is ranked 2nd in the 1A D2 category.


In district soccer games, for the boys, Mountain Home took the win over Twin Falls 3 to 1. It was Wendell 2 Kimberly 0 and Jerome for the win over Burley 2 to 1. The Sun Valley Community School took the win over Bliss 3 to 2.


For the Girls Kimberly defeated Bliss 7 to 0. The Sun Valley Community School downed Buhl 2 to 1. It was Jerome for the win over Wood River 3 to 2 and Mountain Home defeated Burley 11 to 0.


In volleyball, Gooding took the win over Buhl 3 to 0 and Burley outlasted Minico 3 to 1. Snake River took the win over Filer 3 to 0. It was Canyon Ridge 3 over Mountain Home 0.


In a cross Country meet at the Dough Root Invite in Mountain Home both the Varsity boys and Girls from Burley took the wins.


As the district soccer playoffs continue, here is a look at today’s schedule. For the Boys, Jerome travels to Burley. For the Girls Jerome will board the bus for Wood River.


As far as the volleyball games, the Sun Valley Community School heads to Richfield, while Declo goes to Wendell.
