Boise State director of athletics Jeramiah Dickey announced yesterday that Andy Avalos has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the football program. Defensive coordinator Spencer Danielson will serve as the interim head coach for the remainder of the season. A national search for a new head coach will commence immediately.
In the semi final round of state football on Friday at Holt Arena in Pocatello, Sugar Salem took the win over Weiser 25 to 7. Elsewhere, Butte County took the win over Logos 60 to 26. It was West Side over North Fremont 22 to 8. It was Bishop Kelly over Pocatello 28 to 18. Camas County and Rockland met up in Gooding where it was Camas County for the win 67 to 18. Declo defeated Melba 38 to 16. Coeur d’Alene defeated Eagle 7 to 6. Hillcrest defeated Skyline 35 to 31. At Holt arena in Pocatello Highland of Pocatello took the win over Meridian 20 to 14.
On Saturday, Teton took the win over Homedale 49 to 42. It was Kendrick 88 over Hagerman 20.
In girls basketball from over the weekend, Kimberly defeated Canyon Ridge 60 to 32. Hagerman outlasted Hagerman 44 to 29 and Eagle took the win over Jerome 53 to 48. Filer took the win over Marsh Valley 59 to 57. It was Richfield 36 over Wendell’s 28.
On Saturday, Oakley took the win over Mackay 50 to 17. Eagle outlasted Twin Falls 53 to
43. It was Minico 64 to Highland of Pocatello 45. Burley took the win over Century 42 to 32. Vallivue defeated Wood River 36 to 16.
On today’s schedule for the girls, Mountain Home travels to play Kimberly and Lighthouse Christian will host Hagerman
Three local rodeo athletes shined in the first half of the season. Kashli Stouard, Cody Rowley and Hank Whitaker finished their fall rodeo season strong, each securing a top-15 spot in the Rocky Mountain Region, representing the College of Southern Idaho. The three local rodeo athletes will kick off their spring rodeo season as they host the CSI rodeo March 8-9, 2024, in Twin Falls.
In college football, The offense exploded for 32 points in the first half and the defense blanked its opponent in the second half for the third-straight home game as Boise State earned a 42-14 victory over New Mexico on Saturday. The Broncos had a lightning-fast opening drive, with Maddux Madsen hitting Austin Bolt in stride for a 42-yard score just 1:44 into the game.
Elsewhere in College Football, U.C. Davis took the win over Idaho State 21 to 14. Weber State took the win over the Idaho Vandals 31 to 29.
In college basketball for the men, St. Thomas barely defeated the Idaho State Bengals 54 to 53.
The 10th-ranked College of Southern Idaho Men's Basketball Team won its third straight game, beating Casper College Saturday in the Wright PT Invitational. On Friday, CSI rolled past Yavapai 91-74. The Golden Eagle men travel to Texas next week.
Lydia Rose Miller of Filer, the Miss Rodeo Idaho for 2023 is on the road the first week of December as she will be representing the gem state at the Miss Rodeo America Pageant. The event in Las Vegas Nevada is set for December 3rd through the 10th.
