Sports 2/23/24


In college softball games, Boise State gave LSU all it could handle before the sixth-ranked Tigers came away with a 3-2 victory in 10 innings, Thursday at the Tiger Classic.  The Broncos play Austin Peay at 10 a.m. and No. 6 LSU at 5 pm today.


The Idaho State Bengals fell to the Utah Tech Trailblazers in five innings yesterday.   The Trailblazers got a quick start to the game, scoring four runs in the bottom of the inning to take an early lead. The Bengals are back in action today at the Arizona State / Grand Canyon invitational taking on Utah Valley and Grand Canyon.  The Bengals men's basketball team will be back in action tomorrow as they begin their final game at home for the season hosting the Weber State Wildcats at 6 pm in Reed Gym. The Bengals defeated the Wildcats in their previous matchup this season in Ogden.


The College of Southern Idaho men battled but came up short, falling to USU Eastern 89-80 in Scenic West Athletic Conference action.  CSI travels to Colorado Northwestern Saturday before hosting North Idaho next Saturday in the final regular season game.


The College of Southern Idaho Women's Basketball Team shut down USU Eastern offensively, taking the 64-49 win in Scenic West Athletic Conference play.  The Golden Eagles held the Eagles of Price to 33 percent shooting from the field and 14 percent from long range.  On the flip side, CSI shot 43 percent from the field, 47 percent from the 3-point line and 80 percent from the free-throw line.  The Golden Eagles will finish up their regular season schedule next Saturday when they host North Idaho College.


The Oakley Hornets boys’ basketball team is headed to state.  That was decided last night as they defeated the Carey Panthers in the 1AD1 Snake River second-place game from Jerome High School.  The final score 51-38, as the Hornets ended the Panther’s 18-year state tournament streak.


Tonight on the district boys’ basketball schedule, Twin Falls goes cross town to Canyon Ridge, Camas County and Dietrich travel to play in Richfield.  Tomorrow the state Tournament kicks off with Kimberly and Fruitland traveling to play in Mountain Home.
