Last night’s storm caused several fires to erupt on public lands in southern Idaho.   The bruneau fire near Mountain Home has burned 545 acres.  Containment expected by noon today.  The Jump creek fire southwest of Marsing has burned 12-thousand acres continues to burn this morning.  The Oreana Fire Grandview has burned 16 thousand acres.  The 101 fire four miles southeast of King Hill has blackened 2000 acres.  The Basin fire three miles east of Glenns Ferry has grown to 7000 acres.

Gas prices going up.  Idaho drivers are experiencing some turbulence at the pump, and the trend may continue this week.  According to AAA, today’s average price for a gallon of regular is $3.63, which is six cents more than a week ago but 38 cents cheaper than a year ago.  Meanwhile, the national average currently sits at $3.47 per gallon.

The United States Department of Health and Human Services has launched a federal investigation into two Idaho entities who allegedly participated in Medicaid fraud.   The Idaho nonprofit, 'Idaho Community Outreach Behavioral Services' relied completely on donations to provide services and resources to victims of sex trafficking.  Woman who lived in a Boise safe house say they were forced into counseling sessions and that Medicaid was billed for services victims never received.

The state of Idaho reached a settlement on behalf of its prison system after a former corrections officer admitted to sexually assaulting an incarcerated woman.  The Idaho Department of Administration’s Risk Management Program said that it paid $62,500 to settle the woman’s claims. The lawsuit accused the Pocatello Women’s Correctional Center of failing to protect the woman from IDOC food service officer Derek Stettler who committed suicide in December of 2022.

The Department of Health and Welfare and the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation created an outdoor program for foster families across the state: the Idaho State Park Foster Family Passport.  The program will give foster families annual park passes for free entry into all 30 Idaho state parks.
