The weather once again is making headlines.  Weather forecasters have issued a red flag warning starting at noon today and continuing through 9 pm this evening.  Expect gusty winds and low relative humidity.  Then starting tomorrow they are telling us be prepared for dangerously hot conditions with high temperatures up to 110 degrees possible with the hottest days Sunday and Monday.



Several fires are burning in and near Idaho this morning.  The Bench Lake Fire outside Stanley has burned nearly 1300 acres near Redfish Lake. None of it is contained.  In Eastern Oregon, the Cow Valley Fire burning in Malheur County.   The fire is only 16% contained, and it's charred more than 133,000 acres.  Another area is the Falls Fire in the Malheur National Forest.  The fire started last week, burning more than 64,000 acres.  The most recent was the Texas Fire in northern Idaho near Kendrick.  It has burned about 1200 acres, but it is threatening around 60 structures in the area.

A federal judge heard arguments about whether three transgender women in Idaho prisons could continue accessing their hormone therapy, despite House Bill 668 which prevents state funds and facilities from offering gender-affirming care.  On July 1, the Idaho Department of Correction had plans to terminate its gender-affirming care services to those in prison, until Federal judge David Nye issued a temporary restraining order for only the plaintiffs who disclosed their names in the lawsuit.



According to the TSA the Boise airport screened a record 9,503 people through its security checkpoint on Sunday breaking the all time record.  The previous record was set just a week earlier, when 9,467 people were screened on Sunday, July 7.  The first six months of 2024, TSA screened nearly 1.3 million departing travelers at Boise Airport.

Tonight:  Patchy smoke. Partly cloudy, with a low around 65. Calm wind becoming south southeast 5 to 7 mph in the evening.

 

Thursday:  A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Patchy smoke. Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 98. Light and variable wind becoming northwest around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Thursday Night:  Patchy smoke before midnight. Partly cloudy, with a low around 65. South wind 5 to 7 mph.

 

Friday:  Sunny and hot, with a high near 99. Light and variable wind becoming north around 6 mph in the afternoon.
